Eligibility
To be eligible to use a Family & Friends Railcard, your group must consist of at least one named card holder and one child (5 -15 years of age). The named card holder must travel with any accompanying passengers for whom discounted tickets are purchased for the entire journey.
If the only child in the Family & Friends Railcard group is aged less than 5 years of age, the Railcard holder may purchase a discounted ticket in order for that accompanying adult(s) to qualify for the discount on their ticket(s).
Children who become 16 years of age during the validity of the Family & Friends Railcard are still entitled to the discounted child fare, throughout the validity period of the Railcard.
Any two adults can be named cardholders, and they can take up to four children with them - you don't even need to be related. The second cardholder can be anyone - Granny, a friend or even the childminder.
You can only buy online using an address in Great Britain - and not with an international address. Alternatively, visitors can purchase a Family & Friends Railcard at a staffed station ticket office or at a National Rail licensed Travel Agent when they arrive. The Railcard can also be purchased at Gatwick Airport, Stansted Airport rail stations, Luton Airport Parkway and Manchester Airport. Purchase is not available at London Heathrow Airport. You will be required to complete an application form. The Railcard will be issued for use straightaway and is valid for 12 months. Your Railcard will be accepted by all of the Train Companies who operate Passenger Railway Services except Eurostar. Special excursions and charters are also excluded. However you should also consider the BritRail Pass if making a visit to this country. For details about BritRail see www.raileurope.com |
